The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) unveiled a landmark joint statement on September 5, 2025, proposing round-the-clock capital markets. This unprecedented collaboration signals a seismic shift in regulatory alignment, with both agencies acknowledging the need for synchronized oversight in an era of on-chain finance.

"For on-chain finance to scale, the SEC and the CFTC should collaborate to consider the possibility of further expanding trading hours," declared the regulators. Operational feasibility and investor protection frameworks will dictate implementation timelines. The MOVE dismantles longstanding silos between the agencies, with SEC Chairman Paul Atkins and CFTC Acting Chairman Caroline Pham noting their work has "never been more intertwined."

Harmonization efforts will span product definitions, reporting standards, and margin frameworks—addressing current inefficiencies where similar products face divergent regulations. "By working in lockstep, our two agencies can harness our nation's unique regulatory structure into a source of strength," the statement emphasized. This coordination aims to eliminate regulatory gaps that have hampered digital asset innovation.
